Interview with Satunama: Advocacy For Minority Rights

In government processes, penghayatcommunities were required to leave the religion column in national ID cards, such as the KK - Kartu Keluarga (family card) and the KTP - Kartu Tanda Penduduk (identity card), blank as their religion is not official recognised by the state.

Believing that this is discriminatory in nature, SATUNAMA presented their case at the Constitutional Court in Indonesia, and succeeded in working towards the acknowledgement of the beliefs of the penghayat.

Through the help of the organisation, members of the indigenous minorities are now able to put their religion on their identification cards, solidifying their sense of identity as citizens of Indonesia.
